Environmental Commitment

Fashion Takes Action is committed to hosting an environmentally responsible event that has the lowest possible carbon footprint. We are working closely with our event partners at the Beanfield Centre to ensure that WEAR 2022 will reflect sustainable event best practices. By continuing to identify and manage environmental impacts, Fashion Takes Action will maintain industry leadership, deliver value to our attendees, and support a healthy and prosperous environment.

Our commitments include:

  • To host the conference at a venue that reflects our values. The Beanfield Centre is Canada’s most environmentally responsible conference facility and has achieved a LEED Silver certification.
  • To offer a 100% vegetarian menu
  • To eliminate the use of plastic cups, plates, bottled beverages, and cutlery
  • To use a mobile app in place of printed agenda
  • To offer delegate bags made from upcycled materials
  • To reuse name badges (which are originally made from bio plastic) and lanyards from previous years

We encourage attendees to find the most environmentally friendly way to attend the event, including carpooling, taking public transit or train/bus, or walking/biking if possible. To further reduce the environmental impact of the event, we will offset the carbon footprint associated with air travel by offering international attendees and speakers the option to participate virtually. Recognizing that even virtual events have a carbon footprint, we are grateful to have South Pole, our carbon offset partner and sponsor, who will allocate the equivalent carbon emissions in offset projects.

Health & Safety

Having our delegates (finally!) gather together safely is our top priority. WEAR 2022 will follow provincial health guidelines. Contingency plans are in place if the need to modify in-person activities arises with the well-being of our attendees, staff, presenters/speakers, exhibitors, and sponsors in mind.

We will continue to monitor and update safety precautions, as necessary, and will communicate accordingly closer to the event date.

Exhibition Place, which includes Beanfield Centre, this year’s venue,  is the first convention centre in Canada to be awarded the Global Biorisk Advisory Council GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation. This certification ensures this venue has illustrated compliance, knowledge and implementation of the comprehensive standards of the internationally recognized cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention program at the highest levels possible. This includes heightened sanitation processes and infection control combined with extensive employee training.

WEAR 2022 is a mask-friendly event and we encourage you to do what makes you feel safe and comfortable. We kindly ask that all delegates follow government health and safety guidelines and stay home if you have recently been or are currently symptomatic.

If an attendee registers for in-person attendance and can no longer attend in-person, please contact studio@fashiontakesaction.com to update your registration to the virtual experience.
