Margreet Vrieling has a background in international cooperation focusing on labour rights and the social aspects of sustainability. After starting her career focusing on Latin America, she worked for almost a decade at the international department of CNV, a Dutch trade union. She took part in ILO conferences in the Netherlands delegation and contributed to the Committee of Experts of Fair Wear Foundation. Moving to Fair Wear Foundation meant shifting her focus from global policies and decent work to working directly with clothing companies and factories on corporate social responsibility issues and improving conditions on the factory floor. Initially, Margreet was responsible for Fair Wear Foundation’s work in Bangladesh and Turkey and was liaising with and assessing the performance of member brands. Margreet has headed the teams that work with members and production countries. She enjoys guiding brands in taking responsibility for monitoring their supply chain and solving workers’ problems related to their rights. She is keen on discussing the changes necessary in the sector to remediate the challenging problems and improve the lives of garment workers. She is part of the management at Fair Wear and works mainly on external relations. Since 2016, she is the Associate Director at Fair Wear Foundation.
